Denver Weekend Rundown: June 27-29
Looking for things to do in Denver this weekend? The RedPeak staff has your back.
Here’s a list of our top event picks for June 27-29.
Drop Your Drawers and Run Wild 5K The mission behind this run/walk is simple: raise money to buy underwear for kids in need. And in 2013, 900 participants helped raise $25,000 to do just that! This year, organizers are hoping for 1,200 participants. The race starts at 6:30 p.m. at City Park, and on-site registration is available from 4:30-6 p.m. More registration details HERE.
Final Friday Food Truck Fiesta Held in the parking lot at Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew from 6-10 p.m., this mobile food extravaganza will have eight food trucks, beer from three Denver breweries, local wine and cider, the Denver Fashion Truck, salsa dancing lesson, and activity tents for the kiddos. Talk about something for everyone! Plus, you could win a new bike, complete with a helmet and bike pump from Chocolate Spokes Bike Studio. Money raised from food and drink sales and the bike raffle will benefit the Cycles for Student Success program, which awards bikes to students at Gilpin Montessori Public School and Whittier ECE-8 for excellence in school attendance.
Aurora Arts Festival Expect recycled and upcycled arts and crafts, theatre performances, and live music at this fest in Fletcher Plaza from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Fill up on food from local vendors and have a drink or two at the Mu Brewery Beer Garden. The 2013 fest drew more than 1,500 people, and organizers hope to make this an annual event, so get out there and show your support!
Denver Taco Festival In addition to live entertainment by Colorado artists, this event will have a hot pepper eating trivia challenge, chihuahua racing, a green chile cook-off, a salsa war, a tequila expo, and tacos (of course). To get in on the action, head downtown to 32nd and 34th streets on Larimer from 12-6 p.m. today and tomorrow. General admission is $12, but if you’re feeling fancy, buy a VIP ticket for $89. VIPs get a private entrance, private bathrooms, a private shade tent, four drinks, four taco tokens, and a photo booth photo.
Chihuly The 24-acre Denver Botanic Gardens provide quite a backdrop for artwork of all shapes and sizes by Dale Chihuly– the renowned American artist credited with elevating the perception of glass works from craft to fine art. Watch a short video about the exhibit –on view now through November 30, 2014— HERE.
