AIDS Walk Colorado Touted as the largest and most successful HIV and AIDS fundraiser, this walk/run takes place at the south end of Cheesman Park. More than 8,000 people from across the state are expected to participate. Proceeds go toward vital services for HIV/AIDS clients of Colorado AIDS Project and more than 20 other AIDS service organizations. There’s nothing better than getting some exercise and raising money for a good cause at the same time!
Colorado Independent Women of Film This two-day festival at The Bug Theatre will showcase independent films created by 25 local women, including short narratives, short and feature-length documentaries, music videos, experimental works, web-based programming and animations. Screenings are slated for 7 and 9 p.m. on Friday and 5, 6 and 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $10 a block or $15 a day. Don’t think festivals like this are necessary? Think again. Over the last five years, less than 5 percent of feature films released by major studios were directed by women, according to Indiewire.com.
Best of the West Pet Fest Held at Aspen Grove in Littleton from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., this fundraiser for the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley has family fun for humans and animals, including a live concert, pony rides, a dog costume contest, and arts and crafts. You can even adopt a dog on site at the HSSPV’s mobile adoption vehicle! Admission to the fest is free.
The Hill Flea Make a quick trip for this annual event that organizers are calling one part flea market, one part interactive workshop. In addition to hocking their wares, traditional vendors, artisans and entrepreneurs will share their skills and knowledge with market-goers— all with a focus on the principles of sustainability. The flea will be held at 13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Boulder from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Incredible, Edible Gluten-Free Food Fair People attending this annual event are urged to come hungry! From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Denver Mart, sample gluten-free bread, beer, desserts, snacks and more from 100+ gluten-free vendors from around the country. Admission is free and parking is $5.
