Yes, heat helps. But does a furnace fill your apartment with yummy food smells?

We didn’t think so

Below are 5 simple Crock-Pot recipes —savory and sweet— that you’ve just got to try.

Crock-Pot Beer Cheese Soup

32 oz chicken broth ( or veggie broth to make vegetarian friendly)

12 oz beer

1 cup of carrots, finely diced or shredded

1/2 cup celery, finely diced

1 cup onion finely diced

2-3 cloves of garlic, minced

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

3 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup cornstarch

1. Place all chicken broth, beer, carrots, celery, onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper into your Crock-Pot. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

2. Once time is up, remove lid and stir in shredded cheese, and heavy cream. Stir until cheese is melted. Next whisk in cornstarch. Re-cover and cook for 10-15 minutes longer.

3. For a smooth soup, use a blend soup in batches or use an immersion blender before serving.

Crock-Pot Chili

1 lb browned ground beef

2 14 oz cans chili beans

2 28 oz cans diced tomatoes

1 tsp garlic

1½ tsp chili powder

¼ tsp black pepper

1 tsp cumin

1. Dump everything in the Crock-Pot and cook on low 6-8 hours.

2. Top with cheese if desired.

Crock-Pot Lasagna

2 lbs cooked ground hamburger meat (you could also use turkey)

1/2  onion chopped

2 jars marinara sauce

1/2 box lasagna noodles (uncooked)

1 (2 lb) tub ricotta cheese

2-3 cups mozzarella cheese

1 egg (beaten)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1. Add a little olive oil to a skillet and cook onions until caramelized.

2. Add hamburger meat to onions (season with your favorite seasonings) until browned, then add marinara sauce. Simmer while making mixture below.

3. Combine ricotta cheese, salt, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, and egg.

4. Spray Crock-Pot with cooking spray.

5. Start layering in the crock pot. Add a layer of meat (doesn’t need to be thick)

6. Then add a layer of uncooked noodles

7. Then a layer of the cheese mixture

8. You will then repeat those layers one more time

9. Finish with the rest of the meat sauce and 1-2 cups mozzarella cheese.

10. Cook on low (so the noodles don’t over cook) for 3 hours.

Crock-Pot Apple Butter

1 dozen apples peeled, cored, cubed

½ cup water

1/4 cup brown sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon allspice

1. Peel, core and cut up your apples.

2. Mix your sugar, cinnamon and allspice, and stir this mixture into your cut up apples.

3. Pour your apple mixture into a Crock-Pot and add the ½ cup of water. Cook on med-high for 6-8 hours or until your apples are very, very soft.

4. When the apples are done, put your cooked apples (do not drain) into a blender or food processor, and use an immersion blender to cream the apples into a smooth butter.

Bonus: This apple butter can be frozen to save for later!
